From the vibrant Washington Metropolitan area emerges Kevette M. Burwell, a powerhouse vocalist and songwriter whose voice has touched hearts across local, regional, and national stages. With over four decades of unparalleled experience, Kevette’s extraordinary journey has taken her from the church house to the White House, leaving an unforgettable mark on audiences with her unmatched talent and authenticity.
Kevette’s musical foundation was forged at the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where her vocal dexterity was nurtured under the guidance of Dr. Calvin Dash and Mr. Edward Jackson. Her gift for captivating audiences was recognized early when she was featured as a teenager on the nationally celebrated program “In Performance at the White House,” performing for President and Mrs. Reagan, and Vice President and Mrs. Bush. She later honed her craft at the University of Maryland, studying vocal music under the mentorship of Carmen Balthrop and Leon Flemming.
Throughout her distinguished career, Kevette has shared the stage with some of the most iconic names in gospel and R&B, including Leontyne Price, Maurette Brown Clark, Stephen Hurd, Richard Smallwood with Vision, Ricky Dillard, and William Becton. She has also performed with esteemed choirs such as the Glendale Baptist Church Mass Choir, the Galilee Baptist Church Mass Choir, and the Los Angeles Mass Choir. Notably, Kevette was a featured soloist at the University of Maryland’s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center during the “This Is Her Story, This Is Her Song” symposium and concert.
With her forthcoming album, Two Sides. One Story, Kevette is set to reconceptualize contemporary gospel and R&B. The album’s powerful lead single, “I Will Trust You,” exemplifies her motivation, mission to uplift, inspire, and connect with listeners on a deeply personal level.
